  • 3ds max vray vs vray for rhino.. not getting same results :(

I was trying to replicate this image I did on 3ds max vray on rhino vray but couldn't. I tried removing all lights, and still ended up with a hard cast shadow.

Here are the 2 examples, the one that looks nice was done in 3ds max and the one that looks ugly is the one in rhino ^_^.... I had the same settings on both renderers but couldn't get the same results...

Im also posting my options in vray, please tell me whats wrong. All I want is some sort of studio image, with white floor and background and just a normal global illumination.

In your background map, you've still got the physical sky in there, so you'll need to remove that. Removing the sky will significantly decrease the amount of illumination in the scene, so you'll need to disable the physical camera and then it should react very much like your Max scene.

You might want to take a look at the V-Ray for Rhino Training Manual which is in the V-Ray for Rhino section of the Downloads. It has a lot of info about practically every thing vfr.

Kinda late post heh :P, I fixed it by loading a preset. But from what you said, I tried doing it and I swear one light wouldnt go away lol!

... and don't forget to disable the "default" light.

Yeah, thats the first thing I check usually :P

BTW, is there any difference between vray 1.5 RC5 and the vray for rhino 4? I'm asking this since I can see on the VfR renders, that it says Vray core 1.49.84.

As far as the V-Ray core goes that the most recent version that we had at the time of the last vfr release (which was around the middle/end of may). I would guess that puts us right around RC4 or 5. That, however, is the core itself. There are a few things that we don't have hooked up yet or that the functionality (mostly referring to Max supported elements) isn't there yet. The key element is yet. We're getting closer and closer to Max with every release, and its been a long while since I've felt that I've had to move to Max in order to get something specific to V-Ray done (good animation is a different story...sorry Bongo).
