  • metamerism (color shifting or "flip flop" paint)

    Hi-

anyone have some quick suggestions on how to create a material like color shifting paint, like you might see on a "ricer" car? I just need some pointers in the right direction.

metal flakes would be nice too...

    thanks!

For color shifting paint your going to have to work with Fresnel maps and put colors into those. Its probably going to require quite a bit of tweeking in order to get it right as far as colors and the situation your using it.

Here's two threads that might help. The first is about using fresnel for falloff and the second is about a general setup for car paint.

Neither one is too detailed for what your trying to do, but as far as the second link go you can put a different color in the top coat and that might help get you started

Thank you- that's exactly the type of info I was looking for. I know I'm in for a lot of tweaking, and you just saved me a lot of time!

Will upload materials if I get things to work out the way I hope!
