  • Rendering a Viewport in Parrallel projection

I am trying to render a view from the "right" view. The viewport is set to parallel however the rendering shows as if the viewport were set to parallel.

Any advice on this would be helpful. We are trying to render architectural elevations and typically an elevations in architecture are flat.

    Thanks,
    Ray

Then... I switch to "Left" viewport and I get an all black rendering.... Hmmm

I've had problems rendering parallel projections with the physical camera. Try using the standard camera, if you're not already.

or you can use a very long focal length...>300mm

thanks, I am using the standard camera. I will try the 300mm option and see how it works.

So 1000mm seems to get close. I suppose an even longer lens would get closer.

However, this is not an optimal solution. I have not needed to yet, but if I wanted to do an isometric rendering of a viewport in parrallel projection it would be ever so off using this work-around. Architects especially, pick up on these things.

            Thanks for the help,
            Ray

Hmm, a quick test here - rendering of a parallel non physical camera works perfect.

Interesting... I finished my deadline doing it in perspective with a 1000mm lens....

Now that I am finished with that, I went back to see if I could figure out the issue with Parallel renderings.

It is working fine now. I don't know why other than it must be because I don't have a deadline anymore???

Often a restart of the computer helps to fix proplems here.

now... the more I render in parallel it goes perspective on me (in the rendering)...

Re: Rendering a Viewport in Parrallel projection

I've actually never had a problem with rendering parallel views in the standard camera. Sometimes I've noticed that some users will do something with a parallel viewport and it would turn into a perspective without them knowing about it. I haven't seen it in a while, but it has happened. Lastly, check and make sure you aren't overriding something like the focal length or focal distance because one you do that you're going to get a perspective view.

I just had similar problems as rwillett, parallel going perspective and also the render window a lot more zoomed out than the viewport (using physical camera). Restarting rhino fixed it!

I have had that problem so to speak for a long time

Using a the physical camera, set up a parallel viewport, suddenly it turns perspective,so switch to perspective the lens is back to 50mm,set it at 1000 or more, zoom extent, and return to parallel, the view is perfectly parallel...don't even have to restart Rhino
