  • Mapping Problems in VFR4

    Hey guys,

So my company finally hired me on in parallel to installing VRay for Rhino 4. I came across a really wierd mapping problem that doesn't occur in Rhino 3.

The images are in this order: Cylinder Map, Capped Cylinder, and Surface. When I first loaded the file and the object mapping was as it is defaulted to surface, the reflection of the bottle would show, but now diffuse map. Now, whenever I try to apply a mapping channel, it references this one vertex to 0,0,0. and it doesn't matter where in the studio I move the bottle to. Any thoughts, fixes, updates that you guys might know of would be very handy. I hate having to reinstall R3 to do my work!

    Here are the images:
    Cylinder Mapping

    Capped Cylinder Mapping

    Surface Mapping.

The geometry was modeled in different techniques and all failed. (Loft, Revolve, Extrusions with filleted edges and boolean difference.) The geometry is good...so I don't really know what to say...8(

I would suggest trying to mesh the geometry first and see if that clears up the issue. If not please send me the file and I will take a closer look at it.

Wait, no...I take that back...still happening.

What email can I use to send you a file?

Some months befor I have seen this problem too, but I thought Joe fix it. Did you install the last VfR? I suppose so, Joe could help here.

Yeah, Dalomar was helping me with this...any luck on this? It would be kinda silly if a simple seam was the problem...I notice it only happens with cylindrical objects. Spheres seem to be fine. I am wondering if it is just McNeel. Who knows...I will just render in VFR3 for this project and try to find a work around for the future.

In the past I got this problem with cylincrical mapping too. If you want to know, it is a McNeel or ASGvis problem, than render the bottles with Rhino render. If you see artefacts too, than it is a general McNeel problem.

Okay! Big news regarding this....in 2 parts...

1.It is in fact asgvis...8( sorry guys.

2.I noticed today as I imported a block instance with a map attached that the map had flipped upside down, so I thought to myself, "Eh, whatever, I will just re map. I turned on the mapping widget, and found that it was way over at 0,0,0! If you try to move the mapping widget away from that point of reference, it freaks out. It only seems to affect cylindrical geometry though. the odd thing is, when I keep the widget over at the origin, and flip it, the model doesn't reflect the change unless it has the widget in the same relative area in the workspace! Ack!

I will elaborate with pictures in a bit, working towards a deadline right now...woo!
