  • Problem with material tiling...

I'm fairly new with Rhino so I've only just begun to experiment with materials. When I use textures for architectual renderings like walls and floors the picture I use for the material is streched over the entire surface, no matter how large the face is. Then I saw "Michas Starterkit4" where the chess-texture used for the wood is really only 4 squares and is then copied onto the entire face. I can't find out why it isn't posible because as far as I can see, I'm using the same options. Then I tried using the wood-material created by Micha on a new suface and the 4 squares are streched over the whole surface. Can anyone tell my why? (I've added a picture of both the old and the new surface, which is equipped with the same premade material)

If you select an object and open the object properties window, than you find at the roll down menu a Rhino mapping option. Per default each surface has standard UV coordinates. This option tool allow to change mapping type and repeat/offset/angle.

Closed objects like a box has a "packed" texture often, so that not all surfaces show the same texture. The command unpacktexture bring back the typical per surface UV coordinates.

For the checkerboard you have two ways:
    - change the UV coordinates by rhino mapping tool
    - or set at the Vray texure interface a new texture repeat. The Vray texture UI allow to change the repeat/offset/angle only, not the mapping type like box/spherical/planar.
