  • Displacement question

    Hi Guys,

Does anyone know of a way to do displacement on one side of a solid? I am rendering a light and need to replicate an acrylic diffuser. (Flat on one side, reverse pyramids on the other.) I have tried adding a second surface with a displacement map on the outside of the 3D but its not giving me the right effect.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Gavin

    Re: Displacement question

What's the shape of the lamp? I think, you need, that front and back side show different parts of a texture like a rhino box with packed texture. Clement post a unwrap script here:

You could create a texture that is shown at the front surface with pyramids and the back without displacement (black).

you could also simply extract that surface, duplicate the base material and add the displacement to the duplicated material. They you could simply group the base object and the extracted face so that it would seam as if it was together.
