    Re: Blotches

I agree with you Damien, that it will be difficult. Especially if you also take into account gamma correction.

As for Joppi's scene, I think the main reason for the blotches is the fact that there is a fairly bright environment, combined with a black wall. The higher the contrast between different items in your scene, the more hemispheric samples are needed to get rid of blotches. One other solution could therefore be to lighten up the material of the black wall a bit, or even just during IR map calculation.

      Re: Blotches

Yesterday I was working a little bit on my virtual studio and here my IM experience:

      * subdivs 100 and 20 samples -> the big white wall shows blotches

      * subdivs 130 and 30 samples -> better, only a little bit blotchy

      * multipass enabled now and -6/-1 -> cool, 9min instead 10min befor and no blotches

I play a little with the options and found that -3/-1 wasn't the big surprise in comparsion to the singlepass IM. But Andy told me, that an extrem min rate could be helpful sometimes. So, for that scene it works - faster rendering and less blotches. Thanks Andy.
