Can someone give a pep talk about using images (hdi and jpg/other) for reflections?
I'm rendering a glass bldg which is coming out quite well but I don't feel very in control of how the envt or reflection channel is impacting the reflections.
For starters, when I use a bright looking jpg of a sky w/white clouds, I have to multiply it by 10,000 in order for it to appear in reflections. I am using the Vray sun & phys camera. When I do see some semblance of a reflection in my glass it is just a faint coloring (ie i can tell when I change the envt jpg to a red sunset, but I can't see any detail.) My glass has IOR above 'real' at 3.00 and 1.0 refl glossiness. The very high multiplier makes me suspicious and uncertain of what's going on.
Is there something else I should be doing? Would it be easier to put a 'billboard' or photo mapped sphere just outside the bldg to get more control over the reflections, or should i be able to get exactly what I want w the refl/envt channel?
Also... how does HDI change the equation? I'm happy with the scene lighting (gi sun only). Is it worth using an HDI for reflections? The prob here is that i have 100's of good sky jpg's but very few HDI's.
thanks for your advice
