  • Taking a machine to its limits

We sometimes have to work with and render some pretty heavy models (500mb+ see attached) but they sometimes crash our machines when rendering (c++ runtime error of some sort) the thing is we have some pretty beefy computers that should be able to handle all that data:

    Windows xp pro 64
    8 gigs of ram
2.66 lintel xeon X5355 quad core
Nvidia Quadro FX 5500 1 gig of ram with 6.14.11.6250 drivers
    rhino 4 with latest SR

Has anybody else run into this problem?
Whats the limiting factor of the machine and what would help its performance? another quad core? 8 more gigs of ram? or is V-Ray simply not designed to handle that much data?

Right, only Rhino 64bit or an independent 64bit Vray.exe could help here.
For now you can only try to use all posted tricks.

        Nice image.

Yea, bug McNeel for a 64 bit version...They say its coming for V5, so hopefully that holds true. If they go 64 bit then we'll be along for the ride
