  • irregular surface & shadow rendered

    Hey,

I just bought V-Ray and was experimenting it on a product I made for a customer, but I'm not yet satisfied. The shadows and the surfaces don't look smooth/natural. It seams the colors and shadows are build in spots instead of fully smooth.
Following link demonstrates my issue: http://www.mediafire.com/?tljggkyuhex

    Thx,

    Lander

Re: irregular surface & shadow rendered

    Lander,

I think there are a few things that are going on with your render. First thing is that it looks as though you've over lit the model. Right now the ground plane looks very bright is several spaces; the top edge (the jagged edges are a sign of a brighter region meeting a darker region) and the bottom shadow transition (not very smooth). To start, decreasing the intensity of your lights will help, but also making sure that the groundplane in your scene is not pure white (255,255,255) would be a good thing as well (about 230 should work). You'll also notice that your rendering should go faster with the brightness decreased.

The second thing is that the reflections aren't looking very natural because they don't have anything to reflect. Chances are you don't have an image for your background or reflections (ie just a solid color), so your reflections don't actually show any variations and are very flat. Once you put a image in the background, you'll probably notice more "expression" of the forms within the piece.

Lastly, I'd make sure that the material of your piece isn't close to black. Having objects with colors that are very close to black tend to not turn out very well. Usually setting an object that should be "black" to about (40-60) works out well.

place you model in the scene and press "render" ... should help to get a fast start.
