  • Mapping problems (ipod)

Hi to all...I'm still trying to fix the bright but I'm working in parallel with the mapping images. I got the correct location but i don't know why the final part of the bitmap looks all stretched.

    Bitmap:

    Problem:

    Thank you all

Looks like a typical planar projection and I would say, you must go an other way to map the texture.

Thanks Micha, i tryed with the other type of projections...i think cube it's the right one, but the thiing is that the cube repeats...the same image at all faces...is there any way to poject differents images on each face of the cube??

      Thanks

        Re: Mapping problems (ipod)

Hmm, the current SR beta "crashs", if more than two mapping channels are used, the Vray output is black - a bug. So you can't create a basic material with two decal layers - one for the back side and one for the top side.

I use an other very simple method often - create a offset surface and assign the logo with transparency map on it. The apple + 30GB + IPod at one surface, the "headset" and the "hold" on an other surface.

Thanks Micha, im trying to split the surfaces...and apply the different maps. I think it s working.

          See you soon with news.

          Thanks

            Re: Mapping problems (ipod)

You can avoid to split your original surface, if the surface is planar:
            * Create transparency maps so small as possible
            * use _pictureframe and select the map, so you get a decal with the right size ratio
            * place the small pictureframe decal surface with a very little offset like 0.01 at the original surface

If the orginal surface is not flat,
            * use _extract (enable copy) and move this extracted surface or
            * create an offset per _offsetsrf and delete the extracted surface
            * set a planar project to this new surface (try and error to find the right planar projection size)

Hey Micha you were right...my pc didn't crash, but when i choose map channel 2...the vray erase the number 1, no i will try with your recomendation....the thing it's to make a little offset of the area that i want to map?
                Thanks!

                  Re: Mapping problems (ipod)

Think on wine bottle labels. This is the way, that I use often. Create a seconds surface like you like it.

I don't understand "my pc didn't crash, but when i choose map channel 2...the vray erase the number 1". I can add so much channels like I want, nothing is deleted. Maybe it's a new bug. Can you give a step-by-step description.

The thing is that i cant render the two channels at the same time. I can edit this channels but not render both.

                    Thanks

                      Re: Mapping problems (ipod)

Hmm, for example you can setup two map channels at the rhino object properties "texture mapping" like one "box" and one "planar". Than, you can setup a Vray material and set a diffuse texture at channel 1 and a bump texture at channel 2 - only a current bug avoid, that a rendering is created.

Sorry Micha, i dont know if i get it..Can i render the two channels at same times with different images?

Right, a Vray material can use so much mapping channels like you want - only the current bug ...
