  • box mapping artifacts again

Although I always thought the box mapping issue was an RDK issue, in this thread Andy says that the render engine has to ignore the texture coordinates to render mappings correctly. As it seems, Vray for Rhino doesn't ignore these TC's. Is this something that can be fixed? As far as I know, Vray for max does not have this issue, right?

    Gjis,

Please test these artifacts with the standard Rhino Renderer. If you see these artifacts in a rhino render, or even in the viewport, then please send them to Andy. I'm not exactly sure how we're dealing with texture coordinates, but I can't imagine we're doing much different then working with what Rhino exports. It seams very clear that Andy does not want to keep track of the renderers that Rhino supports, so I would say that the best way to get the proper attention for a RDK/Mapping issue is to send it directly to them.

I may be assembling a series of mapping issues/bugs in the coming weeks, but I'm not 100% sure. If I do the I will send out a notice or contact you directly.

If I understand right, this is a typical problem for all mesh based mappings and Andy can't help here (only he could make, that mesh follow the mapping uv).

If VfR could read the mapping input data like: box mapping, size, offset and repeat, than Vray could use an own projection, but I don't know, Vray support it.

Well, although I can't remember one case that I had trouble with box mapping in 3dsmax, it seems vray in 3dsmax has the exact same issue. I guess we just have to live with it. After all it is a dirty way of mapping by itself. Let's pray for a good unwrap tool then...

IMHO, thats a cop out...I've never seen these artifacts before Rhino...3ds never had them, and I sincerely doubt its a "vray" issue (why would we modify texture coordinates?). The reality of the situation is that the mapping capabilities of Rhino are not where they need to be, both in functionality and usability. You can make almost any form you want in Rhino, but you can't get close to being able to map it. Big issue, so hopefully it will get some attention for v5.

But if we talk about mapping, let us talk about what ASGvis can do.

Old wish: camera or frontal mapping. I ask Vlado some months befor and he says, it's in the SDK.
