  • Liquid Silicone Rubber Material Challenge

    Hi
We purchased vray for rhino to create photo realistic images of our products, but it is not performing very well as the main material we use is LSR (Liquid Silicone Rubber), and to date we have not been able to create a vray for rhino material that precisely matches LSR.

My challenge to you: can you create a vray for rhino material that precisely matches LSR? (please see image below)

My full respect and admiration to anyone who can crack it! ;D

Note: this post helped us get close, but not close enough:

Also, a friend tried in 3dsmax and used the 'exit colour' option set it to white to get a pretty close LSR effect.

    Best of luck!

I think you need to add a tiny bit of "noise" in your settings, perhaps in the diffuse layer

      Hey,

Well I did it myself, although it was a bit of a work around.

To get the milky white transparent frosted Liquid Silicone Rubber material effect, I did 3 x VRay for Rhino Renders and then overlayed the images in Photoshop.

      FINAL IMAGE BELOW:

1st Render: Transparent plastic, IOR 2.0 Refract Gloss 0.9 Reflect Gloss 0.95

      2nd Render: White opaque plastic

      3rd Render: 100% White Emissive

Photoshop: Layer the images and play with the transparency.

Looks pretty close to the photo?? ;D

... and now you could setup your material, so that it is rendered in one pass.

The reflection glossieness could be lower, maybe 0.8..0.85.

Also I would be curious to see the object in a HDRI environment like from Starterkit 4.
