  • Leveraging V Ray Express

I hope this doesn't sound too obsessive-compulsive but would it be possible to get the visopt settings and scene (with view and model) of the awesome material icons in the V-Ray Express menus? Here's my thinking:

I want to be able to update the tool bars with the materials I use most commonly and I'm sure others will as well. It would be nice to have them all the same but beyond that it would probably be beneficial from a branding strategy for ASGVis. If people begin uploading materials to the library with both the Material Editor output and the icon imagery the library can begin being developed with a cohesive look that can be rolled directly into the daily use of the program. Right now the library of standard materials for VfR is probably its biggest weakness vs the competition and to begin developing it could only help.

Indeed not a bad idea.. In the meantime, I hope ASGVis is working hard on an automated process. I still vote for the render preview scene to be customized and saved as an icon automatically. Also this icon in the material editor should change when switching between materials.

I second these remarks. The material editor would definitely benefit from a saved preview when you click on the materials.

        Re: Leveraging V Ray Express

We have been tossing around ideas about a dynamic upload/retrieval thing for materials, but have yet to solidify any of them. In terms of Gjis's suggestions, those will get some attention when UI is reworked for the next full release.

In terms of dynamically creating toolbars, I do not believe that Rhino allows us to create/write/modify toolbars through any automated processes (plugin or scripting). This means that all toolbars have to be created manually. If that functionality becomes available to us, then dynamic creation of toolbars would be a very worth while thing to put together.

Gijs idea does sound like a good one. Automation and ease of use will be key as your product grows. This process will also help those of us who have bad naming conventions and need to remember which plastic material they made is actually descent without having to run a preview render within the scene.

Thanks for the great software update
