  • specifying render area/direction

If I have rendered half of a huge file and have to stop it for some reason it would be helpful to either restart that rendering or render again but from the opposite direction (then piecing the two halves together in Photoshop). Is there anyway to tell Vray which direction to start the render from? Maya lets you make changes and then update just a specified area...this would also be helpful....

Anyone know if these things are possible?

    Thanks in advance,

    Re: specifying render area/direction

In the System rollout, there is an option to reverse directions. In the future, if you suspect that you might need to stop a rendering and restart it, I would recommend saving any light calculations that you can (IR,LC,caustics) as loading them up the second time around will prevent them from being recalculated.

If you click the icon in the upper right corner of the vfb (it's blue, and when you hover over it it says "Track mouse while rendering"), the renderer will make the buckets generate where you are pointing the mouse. So you can direct the render that way if you wish. There are also different bucket generation algorithms available in our System tab. I don't know that any of them will help - but there are ones that render top to bottom, or left to right, etc.

        Wow,

Your quick replies are impressive. Thanks so much.

Dalomar - how does one save light calculated info....i've definitely saved my light settings as a visopt but i know this isn't what you're talking about....your clearly talking about the light render calculations. Im guessing I would save them from the render screen, but Im not sure how to go about it so they're not recalculated.....

        Thanks again,

          Re: specifying render area/direction

In both the IR and LC rollouts, if you scroll down a little bit there will be a small section that says Current Map with the options to Save and Reset. Save the map from there, and then set the Mode to From File and point towards the map you just saved.
