  • Newest Vray SR1

Hey guys I downloaded the VfR 01.01.68 around 3 weeks ago. Now I check there is a newer version.... 01.01.71. What differences do they have? What has been improved?

    'Nother question:

What about toon "shaders"? I know penguin does it for rhino, but what if we could toon render with VfR to get advantage of the light properties.

    Re: Newest Vray SR1

If you view the ReadMe file, that will give specific details. It was something minor though, so you should be good with either version (all though we'd like you to be as up to date as possible)

NPR materials will be implemented later down the road. A lot of our users have been requesting it, so we'll now be looking to add support for toon materials/line rendering for the next full version.

Material/Object ID channels we are going to try to add as well. This is a while off though, so don't hold your breath.

            Version confusion (brain too small?)

I just downloaded and installed the latest Vray for Rhino. Love the new materials!
OK, here's where I am confused.

            1. When I start Rhino, it says "Loading V-Ray for Rhino, version Jun 25 2008 19:05:59"
            2. When I check the Vray Options--> About tab, it says "Version 01.01.69"
            3. When I look at the news release on asgvis, it says "....and a new V-Ray core 1.60.15."

Are we talking about the same version three different ways? Or, is #3 telling me I didn't download the latest and greatest???

              Re: Newest Vray SR1

There's two "versions" of V-Ray...There's the version of the product as whole, and then there is the version of the V-Ray Core. The first two that you mentioned are relating to our product. We typically don't refer to specific builds via dates, so number 2 would be the version of V-Ray for Rhino that you have. I believe the date thing is something that is automatically created by Rhino when the plugin is compiled.

The third number just relates to the technology that runs V-Ray. Its not really that important that you keep track of that number bc its relatively insignificant for an end users. That core number hasn't changed from 1.60.15 for probably about 6-7+ months, dating back to some of our internal builds. Our product though, has had significant changes in those 6-7 months so you can see how thats really not going to tell you very much specifically.

Got it, thanks. One more question:

I checked my download page and saw .01.69 (educational, which I installed) but there is also a version 1.01.71 (commercial) available. What's up with that? Can I download and install the .71 version -- or are they too different?
