  • Rendering Gems!

    Hello
I'm having trouble understanding what is happening with gems. When they are imported into rhino and rendered they have this look:
Even when I put just a glass material on the gem I get these results. I've looked carefully at the properties for the layer and have double checked the material properties.
Embarrassed to say I have been stuck on this problem for a couple of days. The gem comes in as a mesh if that is a factor. Although I've converted iy to a nurb and it does the same thing.
Any help would be greatly appreaciated.
    All the best
    Gary

    Figured it out...
The meshes imported had duplicate faces. Expode the mesh, SelDup, delete and they render fine. Whoa hate that when it happens. Three days down a bunny trail.

Yea, that will definitely do it...in some minor overlapping cases, you can adjust the Secondary Ray Bias (global switches) from 0 to .001. Sometimes thats just enough to weed out some cases. But with whole faces overlapping, your just going to have to delete them.
