  • vray settings nightmare

    hello all,

are there settings that affect the render output OUTSIDE of the vray options? because i think there is.

i've been going through the vray for rhino manual, and i've discovered an issue i can't resolve.

ok, so i started with the 1st file in the manual, cups - original.3dm. i make a few changes to the vray settings just like the manual said. i save those vray settings to a filed called "cups.visopt".

i open a separate .3dm file, and select "load defaults" in vray.
so then i try to change the default vray settings to match the settings in the cups file. i go through every single option on the vray menu and match up everything only to get completely different results that i can not make any sense out of.

then i try the reverse, i try to change the cups current vray settings to match vray defaults setting. and again, i get 2 completely different results that make no sense.

below is a link to all 4 files, the 2 original settings, and each attempt to match the other. can anyone out there find out what the mystery settings are? little things like this are quite frustrating. ??? :'(

    thanks!

If the Vray output size is disabled, the Rhino render size is active (look at the Rhino Options -> Document properties -> Render)

We've changed the defaults around since the manual was written. Chances are you haven't changed absolutely everything, and there are some major ones that would really affect things if you didn't change them (physical camera, sky settings). The manual doesn't actually show ever setting, so there's a definite possibility that you didn't get em all.

Below is a link to the old defaults, which should help you out. We're going to be releasing a new build some time next week, which will switch the defaults to try and change some of the things that are causing problems for people

        thanks for the responses!

yeah, i only started from the manual, but that is now irrelevant

ultimately, i am trying to duplicate a set of settings from one file starting the current default settings. it shouldn't matter though, i can take any starting point and if i match up the settings i should get the same result. yet, i get different results.

to test, i have 2 rhino applications open and simply go through each line in the options of both to make sure everything is matched, and sure enough i get different options >

if someone can double check the settings on those files, i am very curious to see the results.

        thanks!

accidentally included a wrong file. corrections made to the .zip using the same DL link.

          thanks!

It is accidentally included some of the file which it not and I agree with that. I'll try to check those file for more information and learn more about it.
