  • Choppy Shading

    Hi everyone,

I'm attempting to to render an interior in the dark, but I am getting choppy shading on the interior walls. Does anyone know how to smooth this shading out? It is the default white glossy plastic shader being used on the walls and floor.

I suppose so you mean a leveling at color/grey gradients. The histogram of the image looks quite good and I see only a very light leveling at my screen here. I would say it's a question of the screen device quality. Only old CRT screens show fine gradients without leveling most.
If you like to avoid the leveling at your TFT screen, than you need a graphic display and a calibration device. I use an EIZO S2100 + Lacie Blue Eye. Maybe a standard screen can be calibrated too so that no leveling is visible, but I have no experience with standard screens.

Some LCD monitors doesn't display true 16.7 million colours. They save colours in order to get high refresh rate. Could be a symptom of that as well.
Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

Most of the times I've seen those artifacts its been some sort of screen issue.
