  • Installation problem?

I installed V-Ray, and all seemed to go well, but when I start Rhino the V-Ray plugin does not load. I get a dialog with a title bar saying "Done installing plug-ins, press close to continue", and the dialog contains a listbox with a single entry that says "Error loading - \VRayForRhino.rhp".

If I click the "Details" button on the dialog, I get another dialog saying "Unable to open VRayForRhino.rhp plug-in; could not open plug-in file".

That dialog also has a "Details" button, and clicking that brings up another dialog with vendor contact information for VRay.

Is it possible I have the wrong version of VRay for my version of Rhino? My Rhino version is 4.0SR4b, and the Windows Add/Remove programs control panel says I have "V-Ray for Rhinoceros 4.0", so I'd think I'd be good to do.

Any ideas what may be causing this?

    Re: Installation problem?

I think it could be 1 of 2 things...The first might be that its just a bum install. Something might have happened during the installation process that might have prevented something from being written correctly. The second thing is that it might be an RDK issue. We had an issue a while back with a change in RDK breaking VfR. Thats been fixed for a while, so if you downloaded recently I don't think thats it. But if you've had it lying around for a while and just got to installing it you might want to download the latest version.

We do require SR 4b for the most recent build, so I don't think its a Rhino SR issue if you say you have that. Besides I think you'd get a different error if you needed a more recent Rhino Service release telling you that that's the reason for not loading.

I think its just an botched install, so just uninstall and reinstall and see if that helps. If not we'll have to take a closer look at this.

      Re: Installation problem?

      dalomar,

Thanks, as usual, for the quick response.

I had actually already uninstalled and re-installed before writing my first message, so I don't think it's a bum install.

However, you wrote "We had an issue a while back with a change in RDK breaking VfR. Thats been fixed for a while, so if you downloaded recently I don't think thats it." As it happens, this version of VRay was probably first downloaded many months ago, but no one here (to my knowledge) ever installed it. So it is very likely that I need to download a more recent version.

So, where would I go to get the latest and greatest? I did some checking on asgvis.com to see if I could find the latest version, or an update to the version I have, but didn't find anything. Or is the demo version that same as the "real" version, but with a special demo license? That is, do I simply download the demo version but use my license with it to get the full-fledged product?

(Of course, the next step is figuring out who here originally made the purchase and has the license information, but that's my problem, not yours!)

        Re: Installation problem?

Sorry for the lack luster navigation on the site...its getting attention. Anyway, the link for the latest build is below, so try that and see if that works for you. Also, you may want to install the most up to date version of RDK which is the second link. This should all install as a demo if you've just installed, and that will work for a while till you track down your license number.

          Re: Installation problem?

Wel, I downloaded the new version, and it installed fine, and started up fine. I selected VRay as my current renderer, and it displayed the "ASGVis Product License" dialog. Selecting "I wish to demo this product" and clicking Next brings an error message saying it cannot connect with the web service; I'm guessing our firewall may be preventing something.

So I clicked "Web Activation", and it brought up a dialog labelled "Web-page activation". I clicked "Activate Now", and that brought up a browser window which was all black except for a message reading "Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class ps_html in /home/sites/site124/html/administrator/components/
          com_virtuemart/classes/ps_html.php on line 21"

I'll try the off-line activation option, but I thought you should be aware of the problem I was having.
