  • Exterior render (archi)

    Hi everybody.
    I have to do a render of an architectural project.
    I have search on the forum, but no answer to my questions...

    What is the best way for exterior render ?

    I try vray physical cam+vray sun+vray sky, is it correct ? It's not as I want : it's too bright so I have to set the camera with extrem parameters, like f-numbers=12 or 16. The shadow don't seems to be realistics.

    Re: Exterior render (archi)

    I am certainly no render expert (yet ), but I can tell you that when shooting outdoors (in real life) a good rule of thumb is the sunny 16 rule, which says with ISO 100, and a shutter speed of 1/100th (100 in V-Ray), you should expect to use an f stop of around f/16, and this translates quite well in V-Ray. So I don't think these numbers are extreme, but right in line with what I would expect.

    As for your shadows, can you post a pic? Again, I'm not an expert, but I would suggest you use a sun light (place with the command sunlight) as opposed to the default light, and under the Environment option, set your GI (Skylight) to use material type Sky.

    Hope this helps

      Re: Exterior render (archi)

      hi!
      Very thanks to your help ! Now it works and I have solved the shadow problem. (color mapping => exponential!)

      Now my problem is to make environnement reflection on material (like glass for the windows).

      Here is my setting :

      ENVIRONNEMENT :
      GI => sky + lumiere01 (vraysun)
      backgroud => sky

      I have tried to change background for an hdri image, but there is no reflection.

      Maybe I have missed to tick an option ?

        Hi,

        if you set the same env settings at the background, than you should see it at the reflections. But if you like to use a HDRI, keep in mind, that the exposure of the image depends on the camera settings. Try a higher intensity of the HDRI (1, 10, 100 , ..) - it should work.

          oh, thank you too !
          It works fine.

          parameters are :

          CAMERA :
          shutter speed 100
          f-number 12
          film speed 100 ISO

          backgroud : 100000 !!! but it works (without the cam and the sun, background is ok with "1")
