  • Sketchup -> 3ds -> Rhino 4.0/V-Ray

    I hope someone can help me, I'm not sure if this has been seen before, but I modeled and applied materials in SketchUp. I then exported it to a .3ds so that it could retain the materials. I import it into Rhino 4.0 so that I can render it out in V-Ray (an animation). All goes well, until I save the file and re-open it (in Rhino), then it loses the texture file.

    I looked when it was open in Rhino 4.0 and V-Ray material to see if it was there, but it isn't, so I can't export it or anything. I just wondered if anyone had dealt with this. Thanks.

    Rhino will read native SU files, so you may try that route. V-Ray info won't be read, so I'd save options and materials out and record your light settings some how if you've got them. Whether you go that route or 3ds, I'd then make sure that you reload and reapply the V-Ray mats you were using. Does that help?

      There is really no other way then to remap the material in the rhino properties window. Every sketchup import will automatically copy the material map to your "my documents" folder on your computer, all i've found is that you just have to help your computer go find it again. You can then close and open rhino as many times as you want.

      hope this helps
