  • Settings for (near) realtime?

    Hi guys,

I have been trying out lately Modo and Hypershot, they both have the ability to see you adjustment in realtime, It really is an enjoy to use that, but they don't come near Vray in quality IMHO.

I was wondering if you guys could recommend a setting that could be very very fast preview, if its possible.

Right now my best effort always takes 10-15 seconds to render, I wish it would be near 5 sec.

Thanks for any advice on this.

    Parker.

Undersampling with the Image Sampler helps a bit. The only engine that will allow you to do that is Adaptive Subdivision (which is generally the quickest anyway). Set that to -2,1 instead of the default of -1,2

Try ditching secondary bounces. Hypershot doesn't calculate them at all (I don't know about modo), so it won't really be to much of a loss. This won't make too much of a difference unless your doing something akin to an interior.

For Primaries use Irradiance Mapping with a Min/Max Rate of -4,-2 or even -4,-3 depending on how rambunctious you are. Also take the hemispheric subdivisions down to 20 or 30.

I'd try all of those first, as they should wind up in a pretty speedy render. If you're still looking to push the speed barrier, then you can mess around with some of the DMC Sampler settings, but I don't recommend that too much.

This is more of a PSA than anything else, but these settings will make your render look like it was drawn by two drunk monks. These aren't "speed optimizations" its really speed for the sake of speed, so quality may be the last thing you'll see ;D
