  • Geometry Detail

This is a similar problem to my post about texture map details. http://forum.asgvis.com/index.php?topic=5922.0

This time, my problem is with geometry. I have what is called slatwall, MDF panels used in retail for displaying product. I've modeled the slatwall but the details are limited.

My goal is to clean up the grooves so they have more depth and less flat and more crisp. I haven't had any luck optimizing my DMC/LC settings and could use some help.

    Hi BillyRayGun,

I'm familiar with slatwall (I believe you and I are in the same business) and I got the issues you are showing. This is how I got rid of it. I turned my Adaptive DMC Max Subs to 8 (I usually keep it on 4) in the Image Sampler. I then went into the IR settings and turned the Max Rate to 0 (I usually keep this on -1) and my samples to 60. Samples on 120 looked even more crisp but at 60 the detail was still there and rendered pretty quick. I hope this helps!

If you're already using DMC for primary bounces, then the artifacts are coming from Light Cache. I'd recommend decreasing the sample size and see if that helps. By default the value is at .02, and I think you should decrease that to .005. You might want to add a few hundred subdivisions to the LC solution as well.
