    Hi

    I've been experimenting with displacement in Vray, and while the results looks good, i wonder if it is somehow possible to make i displace with a specific amount of units. Like for example 20 mm.



    Can someone give me some pointers?

    In Sketchup a displacement multiplier of 1.0 gives an one inch displacement. Not sure how it works in Rhino. You could make a test render to see. Make an object you know the size of and render a flat plane with a BW checker displacement map next to it.
    Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

      The multipliers are setup so that they reference your scene units. There's the global multiplier and the one within the texture editor for the bitmap you're using. I would say to focus on using the one within the texture editor and set that to the height that you need. If you want to "convert" from your scene units to something else (ie from mm to cm or in to ft) then that's something that you can put in the global multiplier.

        @PIERREDENORVEGE, would you like to share that material? I'm curious which settings you use since especially it wavy length can be used maybe as pretty natural grass

          @Dalomar: Thank you! Brilliant answer as always

          @OZBOZ: Don't have access to the material at the moment. But as far as i remember i set the edge length to 2 and subdivision (or whatever the input field next to "edge length" is called) to 1000 in the scene options > displacement roll out. (these two seems to make great difference to the quality of the displacement). Can pm you the texture and vismat tomorrow if you want to...
