well, in one sense you're in luck because black leads black. In other words if you set the diffuse value of a material to pure black (0,0,0) this effectively kills all the light that it interacts with, and therefore will give you a black result. This gives you the freedom to pretty much light you're scene as you need. One thing of note, you're global reflections/background will need to be black, but in order to get good reflections on the martini glass, you will need to have an environment setup within that material.
I'm looking to do almost exactly the same thing, except the back round needs to be totally white and not black. I'm doing a visual of a knife for some packaging.
Can anyone suggest any good scene/light set ups? To make things even more difficult the knife is in a white plastic...and its proving rather difficult. I'm afraid i cant post a photo of the knife/current scene as it is confidential work, but any advice would be greatly apreciated.
