  • ASGvis Workspaces

We've had a number of requests for the different workspaces that you guys have seen in the webinars we've been doing. I try to switch mine out to the standard Rhino workspace when I do training, but I forget sometimes and tend to use some of my shortcuts regardless of the toolbars that you all see. Anyway, here's a little description of mine and all the other goodies that go along with it.

There were 2 motivations around the way I designed my toolbars. 1) get around the annoying toolbar jumps that keep happening with Rhino and 2) maximize screen space. Both of these led me to go with a single toolbar on the top and single one on the side. This was originally designed for my 1280x800 laptop, so on that screen the toolbars extend all the way along the top and side. A big part of fitting in that limited space is more about editing out some of the icons and putting what I really needed front and center. As a general rule of thumb I also didn't want more than one level of fly outs so the icons that didn't get to be front and center are still quick and excessible.

The top toolbar is probably where there's a bit more going on as its really about 2-3 toolbars smashed into one. The standard Rhino toolbar was edited and a few things taken off/added. Then there's V-Ray stuff and light stuff at the tail end. I have a few custom macros/scripts and things in there, along with a few commands from V-Ray Utilities in there. The blank button that's a separator is kind of like a temporary macro holder for when I need one accessible over and over again within a project. At the moment you'll find Jess Maertterer's Mesh Mapper script, which is very helpful. The light tools at the end are actually tied into a custom plugin that I wrote qutie a while back called RecLightTools, and its pretty indispensible for doing much better rectangular light modifications.

I've put a number of things in a zip file that are key elements to my workspace...
    Toolbars (obviously)
    V-Ray Utilities
    RecLightTools plugin
A Text version of the MeshMapper script ready to drop in a button...the original script can be found at rhino3.de
Two HTML files for IsolateSelection...put these in the Rhino 4.0 folder
    My Aliases (over 150?!)
    My custom Rendered display mode
Deselection Script...written by Pascal. Put somewhere safe, then drag and drop
Lastly a plugin called ActiveDot to run macros from with a text dot...random, but interesting

Every body have their own way to work with rhino, but some time sharing your stuff with other people can make their live easier. So I want to share my Rhino workspace with you guys. I have a blue horizontal toolbar in the top of my screen, to keep my icon organized and to find them very easy. I have the Micha render toolbar, because I found a few tools that can help me. One of my favorite is Show Direction of Reflection (Polysurface), this tools help you to setup the lights is order to get the reflection in the correct area. Also I have the V-Ray utility toolbar. This toolbar have a lot of very cool tools. The pink toolbar is my T-Spline toolbar, TS is a plugin for polygon modeling inside Rhino and give you the freedom that you need for create surface with more that 4 edge. In my V-Ray toolmar I have few more icon that help me with the creation of the lights. I use the Damien light script for those icon.
I've put a zip with my toolbar and the other tools there.
