Hi,

I´m about to buy a new laptop in a month. What is recomedable at this point? Rhino + Vray is my most important tool and the reason to change computer to a better one.

XP 64? Processor, RAM etc... What are you guys using now?

It's a new laptop, then I think you should go after somethink like a dual 2,2 GHz, 4 GB Ram, dedicated graphic card with 256 MB DDR3, 15" screen...

You could start from this, depending on your bucket.

Thanks. How important do you think it is to choose the right graphic card, there is a lot to choose between. About dual processor, is there a big difference to quadro core in this case?

They said that video card doesn't have any affect on rendering. anyway here is my specs

ASUS A8 series:
Intel Core 2 duo T7100 1.8ghz
14" WXGA
4Gb ram
128mb Geforce 8400M G dedicated memory
120HDD

Video card doesn't assist in rendering but its still an important aspect of a computer...especially in a laptop because you can't swap video cards out. If you're going to go with more than 3 gbs of memory, make sure you look into a 64 bit operating system. That will allow you to use as much memory as you have installed on your system. There are really fewer and fewer barriers to 64 bit systems, so you should seriously consider it.

AFAIK, there aren't any quad core processors unless you're getting a very VERY serious laptop. I would recommend going with a laptop that still maintains some portability and lightness. I've had a number of friends who've had the "desktop replacement" mega laptops, and they wind up being so cumbersome to lug around that it negates the point of being a laptop.

Your should be able to get a very respectable dual core @ 2.2 - 3.2 gbs depending on how much you can spend. If you're going with a 64 bit system, then go with the amount of memory you feel comfortable with... 2gbs will be fine most of the time, 4 gbs should be really all you need, and 6+ gbs will be way more than sufficient. Personally I would go with a Nvidia card as opposed to an ATI. Despite the long standing status of Nvidia cards working better with Rhino than ATI (although Jeff has done a lot to make it better), I think that nvidia makes a better mobile card that doesn't get too hot and doesn't use too much power.
