  • Create underwaterlights

Does anyone know how to create a good looking underwater light effect..
It's for a rendering of a yacht by night.
I hoped it was easy enough to just put a spotlight under the water surface.. but that didn't worked out so well.
For now i use rendered water (just a color with a bumpmap)

I want it to look like this picture.

    Re: Create underwaterlights

The hack for now is to have a layers of surfaces spaced slightly apart from each other underneath the water surface. If you have a very transparent surface with just a diffuse layer (no reflection/refraction), then that will "catch the light" and will allow you to get at least some sort of underwater light effect. Its important to note that this will slow your render down to a halt, so just be aware of that.

Hmn, i tried to use the extra layer under the water surface.. but i can't get the nice glow effect as the picture above...
What should be the right settings for the water surface?
Is a transparant material, with bumpmap and reflection enough?
and must it be double sided or not?

And what are the best lights to use for the effect.. I now use rectangular lights, because i never had much succes with spotlights in rhino..

        Re: Create underwaterlights

Here is test rendering from me.

I tryed to set the Lights from Michas Tutorial as underwaterlights.

I use the extra layer under the water surface.
My water is off, because i have some problems with the reflection...wip.
It is a transparant material, with bumpmap and reflection.

Alphamap with a small white dot, to get smaller view angle.

        - rectangular lights with this settings:

And with a little bit Photoshop :

        Hope it helps!
