  • Product Design Scene Setup

    Hi all!

I am trying to create a scene in V-Ray for Rhino for product design.

I have applied the HDRI background image of the kitchen which seems to very popular. When you look at my attached image of my scene, you notice that the black car paint ball, the red car paint ball and light lamp does NOT look like car paint paint. The black car paint ball looks more like a gray paint color than black. The same for the red car paint ball. The red looks dull and not shiny or rich like an auto paint. Is there a way to make these car paint balls to look more shinny and more rich texture of car paint?

The chrome paint ball looks really good though.

If you want me to send you a zip file of my scene, please send me an email or post your email and I will send it to you. This forum does not look like it will except an attached zip file but only to attache an image.

    My email: landon.luu@gmail.com

Alright, how do I attach an image on this forum? When I click on the icon "Insert Image", I see this text "img /img".

I found a place in this forum that you can post pictures. Here is the link of the image to my scene:

    Thanks for any advice!

    Re: Product Design Scene Setup

In the Render Options within V-Ray and open the Environment tab, here is the settings that I have:

    GI (Skylight): .01

    Background: 1

Under GI Skylight, I have to color RGB of 241, 241, 241. Should the color be WHITE?

I am trying to make the black car paint and black car paint balls to look more car paint with richer texture. I am not sure if I picked a bad HDRI background image or what??? What is a good background HDRI image for car paint colors?

      Re: Product Design Scene Setup

      Hi
I can't see any picture on the post, but in order to use correctly the HDRI file you have to put the HDRI file in two place. One in on the GI(skylight) mapping slot and change the "UVW" option to "environment" and then select the type of the HDRI that you are using. The GI(Skilight) option is to produce illumination in your scene. So the HDRI on the GI(Skylight) is going to illuminate your render.
The second option is on the Background. The HDRI on the background is just to affect the reflection and the refraction of your render. If you have reflective or refractive materials, those materials are going to be affected by the HDRI that you have on the background in term of reflection and refraction.
