  • V-Ray for Rhino - Glossiness

    Hi all!

Got a quick question. I was not able to bump up the Glossiness in the Material Editor in V-Ray. The highest it will take me is 1 or less. I am talking about the Highlight and Refelection Glossiness.

Is 1 the highest you can change it to?

    Thanks for any advice!

Re: V-Ray for Rhino - Glossiness

The reason I am asking about the Glossiness is that I am creating a wood material which got a lot of reflection. However, when I render the scene, the reflection is there but hardly noticeable. The Glossiness is at the 1 and try to bump it up to 3 or 4 to see if it will reflect a little more.

Any idea how to make a wood texture to look extremely shiny and a lot of reflection? Kind of like a car paint texture but it's wood. I thought you can bump the Glossiness as high as you want but I think not. ;D

      Hi
The highlight glossiness and the reflection glossiness is to add blurry to the material. Where 1 means without blurry and .5 is the minimum value of blurry that you should use. If you want to increase the reflectivity of the wood you have to increase the fresnel IOR value and the refraction IOR valueon the fresnel effect. The default value is 1.55, try to increase this value. Also you can download some material from our download area.
Here are some video showing how to create materials and Micha's tutorial are very useful too.

To attach an image to a post here on forum, you need to upload it to a hosting site like imageshack.us. And in your post write . That's it. Your picture will appear in you post.

Re: V-Ray for Rhino - Glossiness

Alright, I am going to try to see if I can apply an image in this forum:

Nice! I was playing around with the wood material. Let me know if you think it look real enough. I think the glossiness looks just about right. When I applied too much glossiness, the wood can not be seen anymore. Once I decrease the glossiness, I can see the wood texture again. Also, is there a way to change the either the grain of the wood to be smaller or larger and is there a way to change the direction of the wood grain? I want to see if you can make the grain of the wood to lay vertical rather than horizontal. And sometime, I want to change the wood grain smaller depending on the product I am creating.

Re: V-Ray for Rhino - Glossiness

When I look at the picture, it looks a little grainy especially around the objects. Is there a way to adjust the V-Ray render to make it look more sharp or crispy? When I took into Photoshop to sharpen the image, it made it worse.

Maybe it is the size of the scene I am rendering. If I render in the size of 385 x 266 in pixel, are there any special adjustment in V-Ray? What if I render a scene really large, any adjustment in V-Ray?
