  • Problem with realistic reflections in architectural glass

    I´m rendering an house exterior.
The glass material is the included vray glass.
The glass is solids 10mm thick.

I get a good reflection of the built geometric surroundings.

The problem is that for a realistic image I need reflections from the real world. I tested a hdri jpg in the enviroment channel. Both in background and in the reflection channel. If i boost it to 10000 I get a reflection in the glass but its oversized and very unsharp.

How to control the size and sharpness?

    Or is there another way?

I cant find any tutorials or posts on the topic for rhino/vray users.

    Plz help

      Hi 40th!

      I just posted some testrenderings.

Your work presented in your portfolio are truly fine! The backgrounds and the reflections really blends in a good way.

Are they made with rhino and vray?

      Best regards/ Ludvig

I'm using Vray for SU. I believe you don't see the background because you save the image as PNG, and that's cutting out the alpha channel where the BG is by default. Save you image as JPG, and i think it will solve it for you.
For sharpness of the BG it's recommended to use a high resolution HDRI. Other than that you can do adjustments in post work (Photoshop for instance).

Personally i prefer to do all the environment work with Ps.

          Thanks for the help!
I think I will use photoshop for the backgrund as you advice!

My render problem are really the reflections in the glass!
The reflecions I get from the background oversized and blurry.
I would like it as sharp as in your good exterior renders?!
Do you ad them in photoshop as well?

I downloaded some good tuturials for 3ds max but have not found any for rhino/vray. And the toolbars are to different for me to make out how to work it out in Rhino/vray...
