  • 911 - Issues with multiple lights

I am trying to illuminate a rectangular box from the inside. I am using a Vray 2-sided material attempting make the box look like it was made of fabric. When I use a 2 sided material, it seems I need to make the material transparent in order to make the light shine through. When I use transparency, it seems even the slightest amount becomes too much and I end up seeing almost entirely through the object.

I just want to illuminate the box with the appearance of it being fabric.

Is it normal to adjust the transparency to get light to shine through a 2 sided material? I have the blend set to 50 but without transparency, light will not illuminate the box.

Secondly, I need 8 of these boxes illuminated from the interior. It seems rectangular lights are the right solution for getting a nice, interior glow, at the expense of render times. Any other way to achieve this same effect?

The goal is to have an fabric box illuminated top to bottom, from the inside with the light intensity diminishing as the light get's closer to the top.

I stopped my render because it was taking forever but this should give you an idea of what I am trying to do.

Solved. After some thought and study, I came to the conclusion. Fabric illuminated really isn't transparent. So I created a texture map to use on the emmisive layer. The grainy texture, and transition of dark to light, when illuminated, gave the appearance of glowing fabric.

Did'nt you try to make material with fabric map in diffuse slot, and same texture in transparency slot but inverted? So the light will pass through the fabric holes.

            Hi
If you use 2sided material you do not have to apply any transparency to their materials, just increase the light inside the material to get the desire effect.

No Sir. I applied everything on the diffuse layer than used a color transparency. From 0 (pure black) to 5. Just that subtle increase produces my initial test - almost completely transparent.

This looks great! The thing is, I need to be resource sensitive. The look you show is 100% the effect I want. But when I start adding lights, my render time increases. I am trying to render the same effect, but without the increase use of system resources.

Was this rendered with just one (1) omni light inside?

No, I use an emissive cube.
