  • Runtime error Windows 7 64 bit

    Hi Everyone,

    I am getting runtime errors

"This application has requested the runtime to terminate in an unusual way."

This only happens when using very high resolution textures.

    Rhino V4 SR 6
    Vray 1.05 (?)

    Has anyone encountered this?

The most likely cause is a corrupt material, this is easy to test. In the options menu under global switches place a check where it says "Override Materials" and set the little box to a Grey color. Then attempt to render from the angle that is giving you trouble. If it works like this then one or more of your materials is causing the trouble. Other causes include double faces, internal geometry, and interference from other software on the computer.

      Hi Alrami,

thank you for your input. These are models, textures and angles that previously worked. The only difference is that I moved from XP Pro 32 bit, to Windows 7 64 bit. The models render fine with Vray materials, materials I make, just not some images applied as textures. Like I said, the frustrating thing is that the exact same materials worked fine in XP.

        Hey again pashbe1

Well to be honest we do not guarantee that the software will work with Windows 7. None of our current versions came out after it was released. So that may very well be the problem. Most of the users I have spoken with are having no trouble with Windows 7 though and there is an xp compatibility mode in there somewhere that you can use.

I would still recommend that you try the little test I gave you before, it is not very time consuming and files become corrupt they don't normally start that way, so it matters not if they worked even yesterday.

          Hi Alrami,

thank you for taking the time to respond to this. It is the textures.

Apparently Windows 7 64 bit is not good to high res jpegs. I tried downloading some new ones with the same result.

In the mean time I have found a work around. I open the image in Photoshop CS4 and simply save it with a new name and max quality. So far all images I have tried this with work.

          Thanks again.

p.s. Strange though that no other programs have issues with the "corrupted" images. They open just fine in CS4, Paint, Word, and Powerpoint.

I use Win7 x64 in my bootcamp Mac Pro, so far no problems handling large texture and big scene renderings. tri to fix the images in PS. and put them on by one in your materials.
