  • Vray for Rhino 64-Bit?

Hi, i have been using vray and rhino 4 together for a while now and have recently upgraded my computer to a new 8-core Mac Pro. I will be using vista on bootcamp but was thinking about installing 64-bit vista on another internal HD for the obvious benefits. I am not exactly sure about problems and/or compatibility with Vray + Rhino 4 on 64-bit vista so if anyone could explain things that would help me alot. Also if you have used these and have anything to say about it please do.

If i do use 64-bit vista do i need to purchase of download a new version of Vray and Rhino or is it just an install option?

    Thanks, any help is appreciated

You don't need to buy nothing. Just install V-Ray normally. I you have issue with the license, please email the serial number to support@asgvis.com, but I believe you will not have any problem.

Rhino 4 works great on 64-bit

I've got Rhino 4 on both Vista 64-bit and Windows 7 64-bit. Both work great with V-Ray and the extra RAM [8 GB minimum] has eliminated ALL of my out-of-memory crashes.

Keep in mind that Rhino 4 is still 32-bit -- and installs & runs in 32-bit mode even when running on a 64-bit OS. V-Ray does the same.

        Hello I'm a Mac

        thats exactly my wrok/home machine
        I have a Mac Pro with Dual Intel Xeon 5550 2.6 ghz 16 GB ram, 1 TB, 2x512MB GT120.
        Windows 7 Ultimate x64

And everythigs works like a charm. Simply do a FAT 32 partition and intall the windows x64 that you like. Give at least 100GB to the win partition. You have acces to your Mac disk via Bootcamp 3.0.

It's the best deal for me so far. I do a lot of video editing so thats why I like the Mac.

So are you saying that V-Ray will utilize the extra memory even though 3GB is the limit for a 32-Bit App?

At XP64 and 5GB or more installed RAM you have a 3.6GB limit. It's the maximum of 32bit software at 64bit OS. Only the future 64bit Rhino 5 + Vray will give you "unlimited" RAM access.
