  • VfB Channels and compositing

    hi everybody,
does anyone succeed in compositing VfB channels??
i have read a lot of Vray for Max tutorials on how export channels, which ones, how composite them in Photoshop/Fusion/Nuke/Combustion/After Effects/Shake or whatever, then playing around with their opacity and fusions BUT...nothing works when i try with VRay fo Rhino outputs!
color, specular, GI, light channels (etc) doesn't respond as expected, where i am wrong? is there a tutorial from ASGVIS? some imformations somewhere? i can't find anything

... there is a lot of stuff there and video files with some strange codec ( I cant watch`em ) - If somebody drop answer in concrete - that`ll be great ...

how occlusion mat can be created - at less ...
diffuse , reflect and refract are cleadr

pop the CODEC name into google and you'll be able to download it for Mac or PC. Worked great for me, and you really need to watch the video to understand how to composite the channels correctly in Photoshop. It's not intuitive b/c it requires an understanding of the way VRay approaches channels in order to build an image.

Exactly, that's why we made a video explaining it.

            Re: VfB Channels and compositing

            Hello All,

I've just watched the webinar, and I've been trying to test the suggested workflow. I use Vray and Rhino to do a lot of basic architectural renderings (for building geometry studies) with no materials, just an RGB white colour (200,200,200) applied to everything in the model and a single Sunlight in the scene. FYI, I also use the Physical camera for all of these renderings. I'm using Vray v.01.05.29

Now the problem is that even though I've followed all of the steps in the webinar, somehow I can't get the GI and Lighting output from the VfB channels to work properly. They're both always completely overexposed, and never combine to give me the same RGB output as the basic render from Vray. I assumed it was a gamma correction problem and even tried reducing the Input to 1 from 2.2. I've even tried unchecking the 'correct RGB' option, thinking that maybe it was double-correcting the gamma of the diffuse colour or something like that, but to no avail.

I noticed the webinar doesn't really use simple colours, it always uses texture maps. Is this a part of my problem? To make a white material, I simply make a VrayMtl and edit the Diffuse colour. The option to correct it or not doesn't even pop up. What am I doing wrong here?

Hope somebody can help, I'd really appreciate it.

              Hey All,

After further testing, I've managed to isolate the problem. Somehow it's the VraySun that is blowing out the GI pass from the VfB channels. As soon as I use a rectangular light instead, everything seems to work just fine. Does anyone have an idea why this is?

              Best,
