  • License not found

I am not sure if this is related to the issue Mark is having or not.

I have been using Vray on Rhino 4, in fact used it all day yesterday. I start it up today, and out of nowhere, it says the license can not be found.

Where did it go? How do I get it back?

      Re: License not found

Okay, I've heard of this. Keith has briefly mentioned it to me before. I'm assuming this has something to do with your OS doing something stupid. What OS are you two running? Sometimes Vista and Windows 7 like to think they're smart, so they will completely move files to some virtual store temporary folder which is completely insane. Why would Microsoft ever think that's even CLOSE to a good idea...

Anyway, I'm guessing that there was some windows update, and it relocated your license file. Confirming what OS you have will help us in diagnosing this issue further. As a side note, the latest version of V-Ray for SketchUp shouldn't have this problem, and hopefully the next version of V-Ray for Rhino won't have it either. ::crosses fingers::

        Re: License not found

        Hi Devin,

Thanks for the response. I'm using Win7 64 bit.

I'm a little behind on reading the forum so I'm trying to make sense of what's going on. Is there going to be a new version of VfR soon? If so, will it work with Rhino 5?

Look forward to resolving my Rhino 4 problem. I have projects to render and am in a holding pattern until we get this resolved.

Thanks in advance for you help man!

          Re: License not found

I missed my deadline for not being able to render. Will it take much longer to get support on my issue?

Good to hear, I guess Keith set you straight with a fresh activation?

                Re: License not found

yes sir. that took care of it. I also reinstalled VfR and ran it as the admin. Everything seems to be running great.

                Thanks again,
                Bill

                  Re: License not found

Yeah, I think this is happening due to a Windows update of some sort. It's not something that seems to happen to everyone, so I'm assuming that not everyone has windows update enabled (usually this is something a company's IT manager will control manually through the domain server). Hopefully one day we'll figure this out. Any clues anyone can give about what may have caused this, or what they did prior to the license file vanishing would be helpful.
