  • Physical camera sun+lighting problem

    Hi all,

I'm rather new to Vray and experimenting once a while. This time with the physical camera. My experimental scene is simple: a sun and a secondary light. This secondary light is giving me problems...no matter how much i increase intensity or tweak it i have no change in my render. As you see in my render the top of the car and dark side are still very dark and remains unaffected by the light. I'm missing something out and having the hardest time pinpointing what. I also find that some lines have poor resolution on the top front of the car and bars on the fence.
Any help or general advice would be greatly appreciated
i attached my scene and parameters below along with my render

    Thx jean

Evening Sir. I was wondering what happens when you use the default camera.

        Re: Physical camera sun+lighting problem

I haven't tried as it's a physical camera exercise but presumably i'd get an over exposure white out as the sun is too bright to use with the default camera.
weird thing is I have a Background HDRI but i can't see it at all just comes out at black.. ???

bump up the multiplier on the hdri to something like 10 or 30, see if anything changes.

thx Dkendig, unfortunately that doesn't work. i bumped the back Hdir up 30.. 100! i'm so confused and more over to see that no one has run into the same problem. i must be doing wrong somewhere. i'm able to use the sky background fine but totally unable to stick an Hdri. and let's be real a sky background sucks.
I'm almost about to give this up... it's just fun anyway but goooosh!!!! like any game you want to win

              Re: Physical camera sun+lighting problem

what file are you using for your hdri? Are you able to share it with us? Does the same thing happen with every HDRI you use? What about if you use a .jpg or something instead of a true HDRI image? This should work fine, we haven't changed V-Ray for Rhino in a good while, and I know other people do this all the time in Rhino. It's gotta be something relating to the file or your settings. Anyone else have any ideas?

                Re: Physical camera sun+lighting problem

I've used a few without success, none that aren't readily available for free on the net for exterior scenes. I generally work with studio rendering so never used the sun. now i have i wish i hadn't(not really ) i'd be glad to share my scene file to get to bottom of this. could you recomend a file sharing system?

                  Re: Physical camera sun+lighting problem

I usually recommend mediafire. If you're using an hdr image that can be found online, just link to it, that way you don't have to worry about hosting the file anywhere.

Sorry about the lack of response, really swamped right now, can't really do much else with this issue at this point. I was hoping someone else might be able to help out, but it looks like nobody's piping up. Unfortunately we really don't have any staff that's dedicated to the forum, this mostly for users to communicate with each other. C'mon users! Anybody have any ideas?

                            Re: Physical camera sun+lighting problem

Looking at your file, it seems that the top of the car is so dark because it is reflecting a rather dark environment background map. If you change the multiplier from 3 to 75, you can start to see improvement. I also noticed that your GI (Skylight), while set to Sky, was using the default light. You might want to change this to Light 03 so the GI matches the direct light.

As for the other rectangular lights, a multiplier of around 30-50 is needed before you see their them overpowering the sun.

                            Hope this helps,
                            Sam

When you turn on Physical Camera you must turn up the multiplier of the HDRI image.

As for your secondary light that appear to not make any effect; what values ahve you tried? and what light unit do you use for the light?
(I'm no a Rhino user so I can't open your scene.)
