  • V-Ray for Rhino release confusion

Unfortunately, there has been some miscommunication lately. We do not have a release date for the next version of V-Ray for Rhino as of yet. We will begin pre-production this month, and we will announce upcoming release dates and time estimates as they become available. Please do not ask us when it's coming out, we will announce it on the front of our site, we will announce it in the forum, and we will send out newsletters about the new release when it becomes available.

We want our users to be as up to date as possible, and will continue to communicate any changes or updates as we always have in the past. If anyone thinks that we won't be doing this, please consider the following logic. Why would a software development company spend time and resources developing software... and then keep it a secret? Thank you everyone for your interest, and your support as we continue to move forward.
    Best regards,

Could you collect all infos about the next release at this sticky thread here please. For example is it free or not? Will it show the new features of SU?

Yes, I agree that would be a good course of action. To answer your initial questions:

        is it free or not?
Yes, free upgrade to existing users.

Will it show the new features of SU?
Yes, we use the same core, so the same features will be available (hooray for full IES support and Ambient Occlusion!)

Maybe you can post features that are already implemented

Re: V-Ray for Rhino release confusion

nope. It's been quiet, because there's no news. The same plan is still in place. We finish the latest version of Sketchup, we move over to Rhino, bringing with us, all of the changes that were made for SketchUp, then we do a beta testing period to make sure it's all working alright, and then we start sending out tons of newsletters, press releases, etc, and then we release.

A version was released for SketchUp recently... but I doubt anyone using VfR would be interested in having it brought over to Rhino yet. There are still a lot of bugs that need to be addressed with the upcoming patch. We won't know exactly when that patch will be released, until our beta testers give the patch the thumbs up. So far things are in much better shape than they were during the release of V-Ray for SketchUp 1.48.66, but it's still not quite where it needs to be yet.
                Best regards,

is it because vray for sketchup sells more
or is it because vray for rhino is more important so you do beta testing with sketchup users
or is it because vray for sketchup is easier to code

Re: V-Ray for Rhino release confusion

Actually, none of the above. SketchUp is a nightmare to code for, and has always been the underdog in our development cycles. It's always the last to get any attention, because it's always the biggest headache to deal with. So this time around, we switched it up. Since we were rewriting the entire core of our plugin, we might as well make sure it works in the worst case scenario first, and then move on to the easy stuff (rhino).
