  • New workstation Vray install

    Hello,

A question for the ASGVIS professionals:

    The Context:

My main modeling/render setup computer at work is changing early part of next week. Essentially, I'm going from a Core 2 Duo Laptop (32bit winXP, Rhino SR7 Vray v.1.05.29 , both stand alone licences) to a new Core i7 Quad Laptop (64bit winXP).

    My Question: ???

If I uninstall Vray from my 32bit machine (whilst still connected to the net) and install it on my new 64bit OS on the new Laptop (connected to the net) . . . am I likely to experience any issues? ???

If so, what? . . . and how would you suggest I get around it?

    Summary: ;D

I'm really pleased to be finally getting the horsepower I've been asking for for 3 years! At last!

Naturally, I'm excited at the prospect of my new workstation, Core i7 means big bonus for me in my workflow! Its a Laptop, quadcore, this gets more interesting when each of the individual cores that make up the Quad in i7 are Hyper-Threaded. . . which means!? . . . 8 cores!. . . in Vray. . . 8 buckets!? . . . (yet to find out if this is actually true, I presume so!?)

Looking at 8, :-* yes 8 'CPU Usage History' windows today, was a sight to behold! (Pointed this out to the IT guys, who were equally amused!)

8gig of DDR3 to ice the cake. . . I can now have the entire adobe creative suite open, copy and past whatever I like whilst rendering! Jackpot!

    . . . All this in a laptop! haha

Finally. After 3 years of suffering and paying my dues on a 32bit OS (I could do a high-res rendering and have Outlook and Windows Task Manager open. . . not a lot else!. . . and if textures were being used I'd be watching the Page File useage intently!)

I'm so glad this will be a thing of the past! : Bye bye, 32bit :-* Don't let the door hit your a*se on the way out!

    Thanks in advance!

    From: A much happier,

    Stu

    Re: New workstation Vray install

    Hello Stu,

V-Ray is still a 32bit program but at least you will be able to do more while rendering. Very cool machine.

You should remove V-Ray then attempt to activate if you have trouble send an email to authorizations@asgvis.com and include a brief summery and your serial number so that we can unlock the sn manually. If there is a pressing deadline you can send the email before removing to hedge your bets. Typically we respond in under 24 hours if it is a weekday.

    Thanks

authorizations with a 'z', cool, cheers.

I forget I'm at least 6 hours ahead of you in the UK.
