  • Water tile issue

    Hi,
First of all thanks to the member who pointed me to the Tips and Tricks tutorial about rendering ocean water. It helped a lot though I'm back working with static boats when I'd really like to get them moving. But that's for another post.

I created a water and sun system based upon that tut using the texture maps provided for download. I then dropped in my 60 foot boat. It worked out pretty good after changing some of the scale factors to keep the water from swollowing up the boat. That said the images have obvious water tiling issues. See below:

Is there a way to solve them with Vray / Rino or do I need to go back to Photoshop and make a much bigger cloud texture map? I have tried playing with the obvious texture map controls.

    Any thoughs are appreciated.

    Re: Water tile issue

    Hi again,

Well through trial and error (mostly error) I seem to have mitigated the problem though I don't really understand why, so thoughts are still welcome. The offending "railroad track" effect of the water at the bow apparently was tracking along the direction of the isocurve. My plane is a round disk. If I rotate the disk till the isocurve more or less is parallel with the fore and aft direction of the boat rather than running off to the horizon the effect is less offensive.

I suspect it will be a problem, however, as I move the camera around for other shots. It is a problem that I haven't noticed needing to worry about before.

Strangely enough I also tried drawing an new square plate (nominally the size of the disk) and I applied the same water texture. The render of that plate, however, only showed a mirror surface with NO displacement or bump texture at all. I'll admit it, I'm confused.

By the way if these posts are supposed to be in the 'Public" section of the forum someone please let me know. I had not noticed that section.

    Thanks,
    chuck
