  • displacement mapping

    Dear all,
I want to make sea water in vray for rhino, where a ship will float.
I want to make a water material with displacement mapping. But when i add displacement i see that the displacement is not coming in the render. I can not understand what is the problem.
Can some one tell me how can i add displacement to my water plane?

Can someone give me any rhino file with any object with displacement mapping? better if it is in water.

      Re: displacement mapping

The problem is that objects in SketchUp don't have UV coordinates, unless they have a material that uses an image as a texture applied to them. We use the topmost Diffuse layer for the SketchUp material representation.

      1.)Create a new Diffuse layer
2.)Place it above your other diffuse layer if it is not above it already
3.)Apply your displacement texture as the color texture in this new diffuse layer
4.)Apply a white texAColor to the transparency texture in the diffuse layer

Now, in your viewport you should see the texture you're using for displacement, being displayed as a texture on the object. You should be able to position and scale the texture to your liking. When you render, this texture will not be visible, because the diffuse layer is transparent. We don't use texAColor values in the SketchUp viewport, so it actually ends up being a very handy workaround for these types of situations. If you just set the transparency color to white, instead of using a texAColor, the SketchUp representation of this material would have been transparent, so all objects with that material applied would be transparent in your viewport. This makes it very difficult to work with the assets in your scenes.

        psst! - Devin - it's the Rhino forum... ;D
Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.
