  • water texture and scene scale?

I am having a wicked time achieving nice water texture in a large scene. when I created my water material according to the online tutorial, I have a diffuse/reflective/refractive layer with a bump map of a pool texture. it looks awesome on individual objects with GI and a full sunlight system.

in a separate large scale scene, the same material with the same light parameters looks flat. the bump map seems to fall off and is not rendered.

I have tried using the texture mapping widget to scale the texture (of the bump map) to a more appropriate size, this didn't help. It also didn't seem to change anything when I changed the uv settings within the vray material editor. when i turned off the sunlight system and left the default GI in place, the texture rendered, but all of the water's transparency was lost.

    ack-any thoughts? much appreciated!

Can you show us some image of your issue? Have you increase the bump map multiplier to add more depth to the bump?

Basic water multi-layer material, GI on, Sunlight System on, Caustics on. the water texture is a bump map that fit automatically to the object; in the object's properties there are no add't texture map settings enabled.

same material, much much larger scene/polysurface, GI on, Sunlight System on, Caustics on, object's texture map set to "box" and scaled way down from the "default fit".

I am looking for both caustics/refraction AND slight transparency. I recognize that in **real life you wouldn't see any transparency but I am looking for a work-around, to see the rest of the object submerged in the water.

      Thanks
