  • Large scene - Slow rhino

    Hey,

Have come across a problem that I guess a lot of people have came across... though I think there is a very easy solution for it... but I am not really sure :P

    Problem:
I am doing a large scene in VfR with a lot of models, some complex some don't, everything is made in nurb's right now. The big problem is that the panning of the camera within Rhino lags like hell. It is almost impossible to move around in wireframe or shaded mode, render preview is the only mode that somewhat works... but Rhino is on its knees...

So the question is what do all you pros do, do you convert your whole scene to mesh or is it something that i am totally unaware of?

    My scene:

File size on the scene is: 265Mb

    My computer:
    Core i7 965 Extreme 3,2Ghz
    6Gb RAM
    Nvidia 295GTX
    Windows 7

PS. Newbie question of the month? :P

    //Best regards
    Arre

you can try to make invible the isocurves, this might help, not much but it does. you can also use the srhink surface command and merge all coplanar faces in objects to reduce the amount of faces to process

This could be a solution. Or you try Rhino v5 WIP, but I'm not sure how stable it works.

        Thanks for the reply!

Tried to switch off the iso curves and it helped a bit... not very much but a bit

Also converted the whole scene to mesh... but that kind of ruins it... since i have it in nurbs... :P

Also tried to hide all the things that i dont need to see "right now" when iam panning around and doing tweaks in the scene, and later on when i to my render I unhide them.

A question though... will a real CAD video card help me in this matter? or is my GTX295 ok?

Rhino 5 WIP is the next step maybe...
