  • Help with too harsh GI and material application (Absolute novice here)

    Hi guys,

Im trying to render a terrain for a class and im having trouble bringing out the details of the slops of the terrain. My problem is that the GI is way to harsh and when it renders there is absolutly no slope details (rhino render shows them) infact it looks like a box rather than a terrain. Ive read my vray manual and I still cant figure it out, how I could change the lighting so I can see alot more detail of the slope. My other question is reguading to materials. Ive found a nice grass vismat but I noticed it comes with the vismat file and some jpgs. I was wondering where I use these jpgs as when I just apply the vismat it doesnt really work.

    Thanks in advance

I know Im not exactly an expert user, but perhaps I can help a little. Can you post an image of your 3d model (unrendered showing the surfaces and lights).? This will help us see what exactly is going wrong.

As far as the grass goes, check out page47 in the manual. It is a tutorial on adding a bump map, but it is the same as adding a diffuse map. My guess is the grass came with a diffuse map and a bump (or displacement) map. The bump map will be black and white. This will be applied to the bump or disp option to give the grass its height.
