  • Vray with Bongo 2.0 beta 5 crash

    Hi
Is anyone out there using Vray with the latest wip of Bongo. That would be beta 5. I have a model that worked fine with the last Bongo release. When I downloaded the newest (the old one expired) it runs slow even just to render. It takes about a minute for the render window to open. When I try and "render annimation" it sits there for about a minute, and then crashes taking me back to the desktop.

Before it was rendering for hours with no problems. I've contacted Bongo and they found an issue that they've been able to relate to me. It's still ongoing, but I was wondering if anyone else has noticed a problem.

    Thanks,
    chuck

I did not get any feedback so I called Chaos Group USA and explained the situation to them. They recommended a couple troubshooting options which I tried to resolve (or at least identify) the issue. I thought I'd relate what I found.

One thing that I had noticed (but was not certain was related) was the sluggish way the render window was opening when the render button was picked even without animation. It would take about a minute for the render window to open.

The first thing I tried was unloading Bongo, but that sluggishness persisted. Obviously I could not animate in that mode. I then remembered also recently downloaded the new Flamingo NXt WIP. So I unloaded that plugging as well. After closing and restarting Rhino I noticed that the Vray render window would pop open immediately as soon as the render button was picked. I loaded the Bongo plugging and it also worked without the delay. With Flamingo unloaded I also found that I could run the animate render function in Bongo with no problem.

In the process of troubleshooting, I loaded and unloaded Bongo and Flamingo several times. Somewhere in that process, the program did begin to allow the render animation to run evem with Flamingo NXt loaded BUT still with that very sluggish mode. Even after I was able to get the file to animate with both Bongo and Flamingo loaded using VRay as the render engine, when you picked the render button the entire Rhino window would often change to an empty white window with blue banner. If you would wait for about a minute, the render window or the animation progress AND render window would open and things would proceed normally until the next render was called and then the delay would repeat itself.

It seems that somehow the combination of the three programs don't work and play well with each other when Flamingo NXt is loaded. For the time being, I have uninstalled Flamingo NXt and things appear to be running normally. So far I've only rendered a few frames. I will likely try a longer animation over the weekend.

    Thanks,
