  • Any chances to get miniature effect like with tilt shift objective?

    Hi,

I was wondering.. with the current version of vray we have "lens shift" option but not "tilt" one. Would it be possible at all to get like miniature effect by moving the focus plane?

    Thanks

You could scale down your scene by 0.1 (or less, say 0.01) and re-render using the original physical camera settings ([F6] --> trace camera points before scaling to scale the camera position).
For a fake miniature effect (as featured in some smart phones camera options), just go to photoshop and use a black full-res layer with a blurred white horizontal stripe in the middle with the lens blur tool.

    Cheers,
    Matt

      Hey Matt!

Interesting technique.. should try it out.
Also with some post I'm almost there- but frankly I would enjoy to be better..

Best accurate it would be if you use a very strong DOF effect direct rendered in VfR. DOF Pro could be a tool to get nearly the same accurate effect per z-depth, but faster done and easy adjustable:

          Nice tool, Micha!
I never really liked the outcome of the standard Photoshop Lens Filter. Apart from it being nearly impossible to batch process animations with it...

Aleks, this online tool appears to be a very nice fake way ...very similar to the photoshop routine I proposed earlier.

Unfortunately, every DOF rendering takes ages... so looking into DOFpro one day surely makes sense to me

          Matt

I have experience with Dof pro.. and I like it..

but you know, it is based on the generated Z-deph by vray, while TILT objective can orient the plane of the focus!!!

Yes, such effect can be sometimes achieved by Dof pro and hard Photoshopping after, but.. it is just a compromise.
I hope new vray will be full of new buttons and ticks

            Cheers
