Just downloaded and installed VfR 1.5, updated Rhino 5 to the latest build, and started rendering. Everything I was used to works great so far. However, I haven't gotten RT to work. I enable it, hit render... and nothing. Has anybody been trying it out yet and if so, have you gotten RT to work?

RT requires a few things to be set properly for it to work:
1. DR must be enabled, and you must have at least one DR Spawner set in your render options. (you can use localhost if you want to use your own workstation to run DR)
2. DR Spawner must be running and able to communicate with your machine over a network
3. RT must be enabled
4. Click render
I believe that's all that needs to be done, let us know if you still have trouble after ensuring those steps have been done.Best regards,

Hi all-
One thing to note, there is a known issue that the infinite plane will cause and exception and V-Ray RT will fail to run. Other than that Devin's steps above will get V-Ray RT running.

hi,
I tried to follow the steps below, but when RT arrives at "preparing global lights manager" and "setting up 2 threads" it gets stuck and the render just stops. I am using rhino4 and entered localhost in the DR/host slot (1 computer). Do I have to keep this DOS box with DR Spawner running, that one also stops with "preparing global lights manager"? The light manager always stops between 80 and 95%. What I am doing wrong. Could anyone help with a detailed workflow to get this right?
thanks a lot,
gerard

yes, the dos window should be left open. The light manager thing is normal. One thing that is not yet mentioned, is that you will have to 'activate' the camera before it starts rendering. that is: activate the viewport and move the camera, or select/move an object. You can contact StudioGijs for 3D visualization and 3D modeling related services and on-site training.

Thanks for all the replies. Unfortunately, like gerard, I'm still stuck. I get "Running RTEngine" and "Setting up 8 thread(s)" then nothing. I'm using a very, very simple scene: a plane (not infinite) and a box with a directional light and two plane lights. Nothing.
EDIT: I just tried moving the box while the RT rendering was supposedly running and Rhino crashed.
EDIT2: Does it matter if the DRSpawner I have running is from the old version of VRay? I never reinstalled DRSpawner. Did it get reinstalled with the new version of VRay?Last edited by ledisnomad; 28-12-2011, 07:43 AM.

It will not run with DRSpawner.exe. Make sure the XMLDRSpawner.exe that comes with the beta is running.
you will probably find it here:"C:\ProgramData\ASGVIS\Common\x64\vc10\Distri buted Rendering\XMLDRSpawner.exe" if you are running on 64 bit
And moving objects indeed causes a crash, this is a known issueYou can contact StudioGijs for 3D visualization and 3D modeling related services and on-site training.

RT is not very stable I can say from what I've tested.
important note: make sure you report it when things are not working. Reporting means sending a bug report. Posting here won't help fixing these kind of bugs. You can contact StudioGijs for 3D visualization and 3D modeling related services and on-site training.
