  • New seems to install but won't load

    Hi all,

I have successfully downloaded the program and run the installation but it does not load up properly on my Rhino V5.0.

During the install it asks if it can uninstall an older version of the Vray program. I say yes and it proceeds with the installation. When I open Rhino, however, all I see is the older installed version which is 01.05.29.

I notice that as it loads the following message is displayed in the text area:

    Loading V-Ray for Rhino, version Dec 19 2008 13:30:00
    File "C:\Documents and Settings\chuck\Application Data\McNeel\Rhinoceros\5.0\ui\VRayForRhinoV4_tb.ru i" is already open.

None of the new functions appear to be there. It looks like the new program has NOT installed even though the installation appeared to run properly to it's conclusion.

Any suggestions on what will make this work properly?

    thanks,
    chuck

    Hi again,
I tried installing the program a second time with the same results. I went into the plugins section and the properies confirmed that I am still runnin the old version of Vray. There is a new VRayForRhino.rhp in the directory so I tried to install the plugin again so that I could point Rhino to the correct new version. When I tried to do that, however, I got Rhino Plug-in error message that said "Unable to load VRayForRhino.rhp plug-in. Dependent DLL is missing. In the details section it just says "Please contact the plug-in vendor to get the latest version".

    Any ideas anyone?

I would try to use the old installer and choose remove first and later to use the new installer to get a fresh install. Alternative if you use a 64bit OS you can use the old VfR 32bit and the new VfR 64bit parallel.

The only uninstaller I can find is the uninstaller apparently for the new beta which isn't working anyway. When I run it from the start menu it says it's uninstalled, but the older version of VRay is still there. There doesn't appear to be a way to delete a plug-in from the utilities menu. I don't know how to get rid of the old one and am a bit concerned that If I do I may not get the new beta to work.

        any other thoughts?

          Hi Chuck-

First off, be sure that you do not have the DRspawner or Rhino running during any of the installations or removals.

You can get the old installer 1.05.29 from the same download section as the beta version. I would uninstall the current beta version. Then check add remove programs to see if 1.05.29 is still installed. If it's installed then you should be able to remove it from add and remove programs. If you cannot remove the old 1.05.29 version that way just download the old installer and install and then immediately uninstall. Then you should be able to install the beta version with out an issue.

          Best regards,
          Corey

            Thanks Corey
I've got it installed. Now I just need to figure out what to do with it.

              Hi,

is it possible to use both VfR 1.05 and 1.5 on a 32Bit environment?
I want to instal VfR 1.05 on Rhino 4 32bit
              and VfR 1.5 on Rhino 5 32bit

but it´s still not working... is there a trick or workaround?

              thx
              Sanny
