  • What makes RT faster?

Does VRay for Rhino RT run on the CPU or GPU?
What is the best way to make RT faster?

  • #2
    Hello Ledisnomad-

Currently V-Ray RT is only support on the CPU. The best way to make RT faster at this point is to add more Distributed Rendering computers to the process.

      Hi all,

how many cpus do we need to run RT faster? Now , we use 10 x 990x I7 and it ( RT) works really slow with a scene ( build in RH 4, Vray 1.05.xx). Does Vray 1.5 support more than 10 slaves? What about our tesla-cards. Do they will supported in future?

      Thanks

Tesla cards won't be supported until our flavor of RT supports GPUs in addition to CPUs. I believe the current limitation on the number of slaves you are allowed to use per license of our product is 10. The more cores the better. V-Ray Proxies may be a solution for you if you are rendering an object that has lots of duplicate geometry. Currently our proxies don't support UV information, but that will be added in a future beta release soon. In it's current state though, it should give you a fairly good representation of how much it can cut down on render time. I recommend using them in conjunction with Rhino's Blocks. If you have something like grass in your scene (up until this version, the only practical way to handle grass was to use displacement), if you use proxies, you will see an enormous improvement in render time.

          Thanks,

what does it mean "per license"?

If we upgrade our 6 Licenses, we are able to use more slaves?

          Thanks and best wishes

            Hello mackl-

Per license means that for every license you have purchased you get 10 distributed rendering licenses. In your case if you own 6 licenses then you have 60 distributed rendering or slave licenses.

            Best regards,

            Corey

              Hi Corey,

it sounds great! is it for vray 1.5 beta ( 10 per license)? or already for vray 1.05 .29 (asgvis)?

Please tell us how to use our 6 Licenses ( now:each license is installed on one workstation, (6 x workstation)), so every user(designer) can use 10 slaves .
              ( we have got 16 x 990xI7 ( stations)Slaves, 17 x 970i7x (stations)slaves, 12 x 920i7 (stations),7 x AMD T1100 slaves, 9 x amd 1055 slaves and 18 x Q6700 -Cores .
It would be great to use more than 10 slaves for big projects ( most of them( projects) are boothes for fair-design) for each single workstation.

how we can change our activated licenses (6x vray for rhino 01.05.29 (installed on 6 workstation)) to a way to use more than 10 slaves for each master ( license-server/ workstation). we havenĀ“t ever understood how to use your floating / license-system.

( in maxwell-render we hav 12 licenses + 22 nodes) , so it works so easy!!!

Thanks a lot and best wishes

                Hello mackl,

This licensing policy holds true for both V-Ray for Rhino 1.05.29 as well as the V-Ray 1.5 Beta.

First off, for one workstation to get access to more than 10 distributed rendering nodes you will need to convert your six 1.05.29 workstation licenses to a floating license or you can wait until the final release of V-Ray 1.5 for Rhino when this problem will go away automatically with the new dongle based licensing. If you want to convert your individual 1.05.29 licenses to a floating license please send the request and all six of your serial numbers to vrhino@chaosgroup.com and our support team will assist you with that.

Do you already have V-Ray for Rhino 1.05.29 installed on your 79 slave machines?

                Best regards,
                Corey

                  Hi
A good way to make Rt faster is through the RT setting, by reducing the setting you will limit the calculation to that value, thus you will have a faster RT. For example if you reduce the Trace Depth to 2 you will calculate the reflection and the refraction up to two. Meaning faster RT.
Unfortunately the RT options are not working at all. We are going to fix them as soon as possible.

                  Best
